The 15-storey South City ‘tower’ is located directly opposite the main entrance of the Gare du Midi (the South Station that provides fast TGV connections from Brussels to Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, London and Paris) and forms a new landmark that announces the beginning of the heart of the city.
The mixed-use ensemble includes offices (the 18,547-square-metre Le Broodthaers building and the 13,602-square-metre Le Fonsny building) and the 142-room, 7,231-square-metre Park Inn by Radisson Brussels Midi Hotel that is managed by the Rezidor hotel group and houses meeting rooms and a bar and restaurant.
South City is articulated around two landscaped inner courtyards that provide natural light and greenery for the project’s occupants and visitors. It also incorporates a series of retail shops at ground level and an underground garage with space for 200 cars.
A new, public landscaped square at the front of the building creates a majestic space in the urban fabric and also provides a welcoming entrance to the Park Inn hotel. Whilst the hotel takes advantage of a main entrance fronting the TGV Station, all of the other hotel facilities are located at the back of the city block and the rooms face onto quiet streets on one side, and a charming landscaped inner courtyard on the other.
